Water always finds the weakest point. We waterproof bathrooms, balconies and roofs with membranes laid over a prepared surface and carried up the walls, so water has nowhere to go but the drain.

How it is done
The surface is cleaned and repaired, corners and pipe openings are sealed first, then the membrane goes on in full coats and up the walls in wet zones. Before any tile goes down, the area is water tested to prove there are no leaks.
Why it matters
A failed membrane does not show for months. By the time a stain appears on the ceiling below, the fix means breaking tiles. Getting this layer right costs less than any repair. More in the 6 layers under a bathroom.
What affects the cost
Area, surface condition, membrane type, and whether old tiles and screed must come off first.
